Samstag Morgen waren wir, das heißt Benedict und ich und Cordula und Jörg, in der Westruper Heide. Mit Cordula gehe ich oft laufen, vielleicht habt ihr auf Instagram so schon mal etwas von ihr mitbekommen. Sie ist außerdem die blonde „Schwedin“ von meinem Geburtstagsartikel. Wir waren „wandern“. Haha. Eigentlich war vorher schon klar, dass wir hauptsächlich fotografieren wollten. Und das ist es letztlich auch geworden. Hätten wir aber gewusst WIE schön dieses Fleckchen Erde ist, wir hätten wohl das Auto voll Klamotten und Fotoequipment gepackt und hätten überhaupt nicht mehr den Anspruch gehabt uns weit zu bewegen.
„Such a beautiful place! Look at the colours!“ Saturday morning Benedict, Jörg, Corudla and I were out to hike in the Westruper Heide. Cordula is my friend I go running with, may you noticed on Instagram. Besides that you can now her from my birthday article: she is that blonde „swedish“ girl with the crownbraid. So we were hiking, I said. Just kidding, we wanted to, but as the landscape was so stunning, we took photos all the time. If we knew how amazing this place was, we had packed the trunk with all photo equipment and dresses to change and really would not have thought about moving around so much.
Die Heide hat jetzt gerade noch Saison, die typische purpurne Färbung ist besonders schön im Spätsommer und Herbst. Aktuell sind die Gräser nicht mehr grün, sondern golden. Ich komme immer noch nicht darauf klar, dass es soetwas leuchtendes, sanftes hier bei uns in der Nähe gibt. Also: wenn ihr es in den nächsten Tagen einrichten könnt und auch aus NRW kommt, dann besucht die Westruper Heide. Seid ihr aus dem Nordern, die große Schwester, die Lüneburger Heide, steht seit diesem Wochenende auch für mich ganz hoch im Kurs für einen Ausflug.
Wir waren morgens um neun dort, ideal für Fotos wäre noch etwa 1-2 Stunden früher gewesen. Ab 10 wird es merklich voller, ab mittag waren es uns schon zu viele Menschen. Ist eben Naherholungsgebiet in NRW, da ist man selten allein.
The heather is in season now, blooming with this amazing purple coklour from late summer till fall. By now the grass is no longer green but really golden. I still can“t believe we have something so beautiful so close by… So if you are in NRW now or in the northern part of Germany close to the Lüneburger Heide, try to make time for a weekend getaway. We arrived around 9am and for perfect photos we bette were there 1-2 hours earlier. From 10am onwards the heather slowly got crowded and by the time we left around noon there were even too many people around for our taste. So well it is a recreation area in NRW you are almost never alone in this area.

Die Westruper Heide liegt am Halterner See und ihr könnt somit auch am See entlang gehen. Da der aber mit ziemlich garstig hässlichen Stacheldraht gegen Menschen abgeschirmt ist, ist die Wegstrecke am Wasser entlang tatsächlich eher enttäuschend. Bleibt also bei der Heide. Und ganz wichtig, tut etwas, wofür wir uns vor lauter Staunen und Fotografieren schon keine Zeit mehr genommen haben: setzt euch und schaut. Und sonst nichts.
The Westruper Heide is next to the Halterner See and you can also hike along the lakeside. But as the lake is protected from people with really ugly barbed wire, we found this passage rather disappointing and happily returned to the heather. And really important, do something we totally forgot because we were so excited: choose a quite place, sit down… and watch. Nothing else.
